How do I handle more than one job offer and 2 upcoming interviews?

interviews
vane7997 asked:

I have two job offers and two great interviews coming up. I also have two great interviews coming up that I’ve been waiting for a call from. The first job offer wants me to start Monday. How do I keep them waiting a little longer so that I can interview with the other positions without sounding disinterested?

Well you can’t say yes to the offer and you can’t say no.

So I suggest that you stall. You could query the terms of the offer and ask for more information e.g. you would like to read the contract they send you.
Or you could say that you have to be out of town for 2 weeks so there is no way that you can start on Monday.

I’m in the same position as you receiving offers to start Monday when I already have other interviews scheduled for then. First see if you can move your other interviews up to Friday, and be available at anytime since it is such short notice. If the interview can be moved to Friday tell them something important came up that will prevent you from being there or you did not have your calendar available when they contacted you then upon arriving home preparing for your week (they like to hear that) you discovered a glitch in the scheduling that you had a prior engagement. Let them know the interview/job is very important to you if you could be there you would. They appreciate people who keep them informed at least take the time to call them because a lot of people never show up or even call if they cannot make it, etc. Be prepared if they tell you no what to do. Don’t screw yourself out of the job. Or if possible start the job continue to interview on the side a lot of employers will accomodate you especially if you are still working…perfect excuse. If you absolutely Then tell the first offer you received that you are willing to start Monday or one day next week. Inform them you are very interested however you already have other interviews scheduled. Honesty is the best policy, but not always. You have to priortize what is most important to you improvise where necessary. Job sites are a great places to get these sort of questions answered. You can even post on there as well to get feedback. I find careerbuilder.com to be an excellent site, monster.com, etc. Other than that do on-line research about the companies to see which is most appealing, if you know someone who works there that could provide you with insight regarding the position/company it could be helpful in make your decisions. Call the company for information about the web address, questions, e-mail, contact persons, etc. you could remain anonymous if they ask tell them I’d like to remain anonymous. They like if you’ve done your homework it should interest make you look better in the interview process. I know you have little time left to do extensive research so maybe posting on different sites will get you your answer or do SOME research. Ask when they need a definite answer that you’d like some time to consider it that you have other upcoming interview could you start on Tues. or Wed. or Thurs. Or ask when is the latest you need to know need someone to start could I let you know a.s.a.p. Let them know a date/time if possible make sure you get back to them when you told them you would. If you need more time or decide against their offer let them know as well. Keeping them informed is appreciated because a lot of people rather know something than nothing it is a courtesy. Remember you can’t stall them forever…I hope somehow I was helpful not leaving you more confused. Life is so variable so are life’s situations…you need to be flexible, decisive, considerate….you have a lot of thinking to do. Nothing in life is easy to juggle or decide. Sometimes you have to cut your losses learn hard lessons hopefully you make the appropriate choices that are most suitable for you. Best wishes. (There are a lot of candidates wanting the same jobs depending on your personal situation financially it sometimes is best to take the 1st offer…and keep looking. But not always in your best interest. Sometimes you do what you have to do in life.) Remember later on if you switch jobs quickly be ready to explain the change at your next interviews). Again best wishes have a wonderful day! Remember if you contact the co. asking to speak to someone about job opportunities or if you just speak to the receptionist ask if it is ok that you want more info. if they have the time some will others will not want calls they are too busy some appreciate your interest…keeping your name in mind since not everyone goes to all that trouble. A lot of co.’s like follow up. Be sure when being contacted by them for an interview or after being offered a job to ask for more info. or can I call back with more questions should I have any. Maybe these thing will prove to be helpful in your job search. Wishing you success! I also agree with the person who mentioned in one of your other answers you will be out of town maybe not for two weeks since they want you to start Mon. Tell them since it is summer…August…vacation time…you will not be available to start until you get back in 1 week or 2 weeks or until you end your other employment if applicable in your case. I’ve used a lot of the things I’ve mentioned they’ve worked for me…every place is different. If they are not flexible with you then maybe you don’t want to work there anyway because that may be the way you get treated…or why do they need someone to start so soon…maybe ask that question in a delicate, non-threatning/unbold way.
